Staunton's Historic Downtown Theater 125 E. Beverley St. (540) 885-8445

Finding The Dixie

The Dixie is located at 125 E. Beverley Street - at the corner of Beverley and Market Streets - in historic downtown Staunton, Va.  The theater is located close to parking, restaurants, shops and the Blackfriars Shakespearean Theater.

To get to the Dixie from Interstate 81

Exit the Interstate and turn right (West) at the end of the exit ramp. You are on US Rt. 250 - Richmond Road. Drive West several miles - past a Walmart on the left, a small national cemetery on the right, past a large intersection (Statler Blvd.) until you go down a large hill toward another intersection - with US Rt. 11 - Greenville Avenue. There is a large (10 foot) sculptural flower pot to the right at the intersection, beside a railroad underpass.

Richmond Road ends. Bear right past the flowerpot, move to the left lane and go under the bridge. A giant (15 foot) sculptural water can is on the left. Turn left just past the bridge and watering can onto Johnson Street.

Go to the first traffic light. Turn right at the light onto New Street. Turn right at the next light onto East Beverley Street. The Dixie is on the left at the end of the block - at the intersection with Market Street.

The City of Staunton website has some good directions and maps available online.

Parking Is Easy

Many people say that Staunton has a "parking problem'. This is not true, particularly during The Dixie's show times.

There is on street parking in front of The Dixie on East Beverley Street and on Market Street side of The Dixie, but don't park in the very large spaces reserved for buses.

Just across North Market Street from The Dixie there is a public parking lot with 60 spaces. It has handicapped parking spaces, and inexpensive metered parking during the day.

Just west of The Dixie and one block south (Johnson at New street) is Staunton's newest and largest public parking lot, just a five minute walk from The Dixie.

Regardless of where you choose to park, it is just a flat, leisurely stroll to The Dixie. Take your time, look around, and enjoy the well lit, and wonderful historic architecture of Downtown Staunton.
